Is it a laptop or a notebook? A laptop is a portable computer, which is much smaller than a
desktop computer. Laptops have smaller specific components than a desktop computer and all parts are self-contained in one unit. This includes specifically designed
RAM (Random Access Memory),
Hard Drive (storage device), built in keyboard, built in mouse or touchpad and a built in LCD screen. Laptops can vary greatly in size and weight, although the typical weight of a laptop is between 3-12 pounds. As the size of laptops diminished with technological advances, the term "notebook" came into use, comparing the size of a laptop to an actual notebook (the kind with paper in it). Nowadays, the terms notebook computer and laptop computer are fairly interchangeable, although most people view a laptop as a larger computer on that can sit on someone’s lap, and a notebook computer tends to imply something smaller, the size of a notebook.
