| Expert Review: Dell Latitude D800 is a bigger and heavier laptop. Rather, the design was not with intention of making a sleek model. Therefore, Dell Latitude D800 perfectly fits the bill of a laptop with almost desktop-like features but with increased portability than a desktop. There is no compromise on performance though. The greatest attraction and plus point of D800 is its huge 15.4” wide-screen display. Want more? Read full review. |

The Dell Latitude D800 laptop is tailor made for power users looking for portability without compromising on performance. Rightly placed as a Desktop replacement, the D800 is not the sleekest or the lightest of the lot, simply because it's not meant to be sleek and light. This notebook has a HUGE 15.4” widescreen display, just urging you to watch a DVD or do your latest business presentation.

Dell Latitude D800 Reviews

Comments: I mostly use my computer for the following tasks:
Business / Engineering
The feature that mattered to me most when making my decision was:
* Hardware interchangeability with another nearly identical machine
* Runs FreeBSD RELENG_6
* PATA drive interface
With regards to size, weight, performance, battery life, display quality, etc.,
I LIKE the quality of the following about this laptop:
it is dentical to my previously purchased machine. This particular laptop is a road barge and is designed to be so. If you want a SMALL machine look at the d400 or 410. The battery is fine on this one but if you buy a used laptop dont expect the battery to be any good. The screen is in NEW condition with NO scuffs or scratches. There is minor cosmetic wear to the case but that just means sombody used it.
The following improvements should be made to the laptop:
Dell laptop keyboards are historically crappy but the good news is that they are cheap. Save yourself from being lied to by Dell shipping when yours fails on short notice and just buy 2 or 3 spares when you buy the machine. Power users will kill a dell laptop keyboard once every 6 months. Dell's USB interfaces leave a lot to be desired also, but that is in addition to the fact that USB sucks for certain things anyway. This machine has firewire and a PCMCIA slot so there are other ways to get the job done.
I would recommend this laptop to anyone who:
Does engineering work and needs USB, parallel, firewire, PCMCIA, a really large screen, and wants to tell Michael Dell to go back to the standard PATA drive interface that was used on this series of machine. I will *never* buy one of the newer Dell machines as long as it doesn't work easily with my ICS SOLOII drive cloner that I use to protect my data!!! Dell has gone to a drive connector that Toshiba manufactures, and the Toshiba manufacturers data says the MTBF for this new connector is 20 remove/reconnect cycles!!! Geez fellas....
For the price, this laptop is:
Priced exactly right for the criteria that justified the purchase, unless you want someone to be giving them away.

Comments: I mostly use my computer for the following tasks: work, e-mails and fun
The feature that mattered to me most when making my decision was: Price. I paid $699 + tax
With regards to size, weight, performance, battery life, display quality, etc.,
I LIKE the quality of the following about this laptop:
Bit Heavy but it's okay. Love the big screen.
The following improvements should be made to the laptop: bigger hard drive
I would recommend this laptop to anyone who: is a man or a woman and needs a great deal on a laptop.
For the price, this laptop is: great value. Dell technical people are great.

Comments: Every now and then Dell will come along with a product that, just through the institution of one or two changes, can be completely revitalized into a form that is reliable. This is perhaps the reason for the popularity of this unit as the Dell latitude D800 is an old enough laptop type that the initial interest in it should have worn off by now. In fact, on a number of other different laptop units that is exactly what has happened but for some reason the interest in this particular unit seems to still be around. It perhaps has something to do with the fact that they took a very decent hardware configuration and added both DVD RW and wireless functionality to it, so that ultimately people interested in purchasing a reasonably priced laptop. It is a pleasure to watch DVD's on the 15.4" LCD and is a true desktop replacement.
For being an excellent example of a modern economical purchase

Comments: I mostly use my computer for the following tasks: school
The feature that mattered to me most when making my decision was: windows xp
With regards to size, weight, performance, battery life, display quality, etc.,
I LIKE the quality of the following about this laptop: the size.
The following improvements should be made to the laptop: i think the computer needs a little more memory and hard drive space. a cd burner would be nice, too.
I would recommend this laptop to anyone who: needs a laptop to do basic things.
For the price, this laptop is: well, it's a good laptop but now i wish i spent a little more money for one of those Lenovo's.
